Fashion Friday: Nicolas Ghesquiere

Fashion Friday presenting Nicolas Ghesquiere

Nicolas Ghesquiere (1971 - ) is the French current creative director of the house of Balenciaga.
He started his fashion design internships at age 14 ... no lie. I'm not sure what his connections were or how good he could have been but he became the assistant to designer Jean-Paul Gaultier (remember him from last week?) right out of school. By 1997 he was at Balenciaga as the surprise choice.

Enough with the words, right. Onto the fashion!

These two photographs have the clothes on a lighted body form. Say what? How freakin' cool. It looks like X-Rays! I love how it shows off the care put into the bodice. I absolutely love this jacket. And would totally wear it if I could find a place it seemed appropriate.
Lately he has been really into the weird futuristic shapes that are considered fashionable right now. I think they are not meant for wear... but most of this is considered ready-to-wear and is not high fashion, so apparently someone thinks they are meant for wear!
The up side is that these shapes make stick-figure models look like they have bodies with boobs and hips.
Now smack those designs on someone who already has boobs and hips and you might be in trouble... which is why I guess I don't think they are meant for wear.
But I do like her tights...

And this screams VAVOOM, but my shoulders already look like a line-backers so again, I wouldn't wear it.
cute dress, er, jacket...

Well, what do YOU think? Next week I'll show off more from the house of Balenciaga, but by other designers.

The very first jacket (dress?) is amazing. I love the handkerchief bottom. I'm with you regarding the va-voom dress and also the one with red tights. That neckline would not work for me either. I'm a line-backer, too! The shoes with scarves are really cool! If I was younger I'd definitely do that.
