I challenge myself to a duel.

Okay. Maybe not a duel... that would be difficult and very Fight-Club-ish of me.

Today as I was cleaning and reorganizing books, it dawned on me... I have SO many inspiring art books. And they have been facing serious neglect. Instead, I should really use them as my own source of inspiration and challenge. While I've looked at all my art books, there are many that I have not seriously sat down with. Many I have really sat down with, but even those.... have not been touched in years! Some I found on sale or in thrift stores, some were gifts, and some are hand-me-downs. While I love having a great collection of books... I want to make sure I really use my collection. Otherwise it is just taking up room and gathering dust.

So I've challenged myself to sit down with one book each month for the rest of the year. During that month, not only will I read the book and soak in the images, but I will be making art inspired by that book.

Want to play along? Either - you can do this with your own crafty art books, or you can play along with me. At the beginning of each month, I'll soak up the pages and come up with 4-8 prompts for the month. I'm really going to try to stay on top of this one! Some of mine may be art books of a different kind, you'll see what I mean:

July -  Chanel and Her World by Charles-Roux

August -  Artist Trading Card Workshop by Berlin

September - North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment by Dubin

October - John Singer Sargent by Jennings

November - Ferrari: Road and Racing by Goodfellow

December - Delight in the Details by Pace

Do you have any books laying around feeling neglected that need you to show them some love?

You've inspired me! I have so many art books and they sit on the shelf gathering dust. I need to get them out and use them.

Looks like some great books for inspiration! I have some fashion books lying around my house that I haven't flipped through in awhile!
